New center aims to use immune system to fight cancer, other diseases

A new center at the School of Medicine will help scientists use the power of the immune system to fight infections and cancers. The Center for Human Immunology and Immunotherapy Programs is part of BioMed21, WUSTL’s initiative to accelerate basic science discoveries into improved diagnosis and treatments.

Danforth Fellowships in plant sciences announced

New four-year fellowships are being created in the Division of Biology and Biomedical Sciences, Chancellor Mark S. Wrighton announced. They’re possible thanks to a generous gift from William H. Danforth, WUSTL’s former chancellor. Danforth hopes the new fellowships foster a culture of intellectual entrepreneurship focused on research and innovation in plant sciences.

Fazzari to be installed as Lynch Distinguished Professor

Steven Fazzari, PhD, will be installed Monday, April 21, as the Bert A. and Jeanette L. Lynch Distinguished Professor. He is the first  to receive this distinction in the Department of Economics, thanks to the generosity of the Lynches, who bequeathed funds for three new professorships. The others are named in honor of Douglass C. North, PhD, and the late Murray L. Weidenbaum, PhD.

Thurtene Carnival delights students, alumni and St. Louisans

Thurtene Carnival drew thousands of revelers to WUSTL last weekend to enjoy rides, shows and food. The student-run carnival benefited local charity TASK, or Team Activities for Special Kids.

IDEA Labs Demo Day Friday​​​

IDEA Labs will host its second annual Demo Day tomorrow, April 18. Medical and engineering students from the Medical and Danforth campuses will demonstrate prototypes for inventions they created to solve a variety of health-care problems.
